Chiropractor | Dr. Steven Stanchuk
"I didn’t discover chiropractic, Chiropractic discovered me!"
After working for the US Fish and Wildlife Service for a year, I began to look for a different career option. I was just about to finish up my last year of undergraduate college when I found myself on a job shadowing assignment at a chiropractor's office. I stood in disbelief as I watched patient after patient come in and out of this small town chiropractic office. What amazed me was simple, they were all smiling! Never before had I been in a doctor’s office where the patients actually left smiling.
Learning More About Chiropractic
I had no idea what chiropractic was, I admit, but it actually found me that day, and ever since then my life has transformed into something I could never have imagined.
I learned that there is a health care profession where not only is the doctor happy to be there, but the patients are too. I couldn't believe my eyes, instead of being surrounded by patients who were sick and suffering, I met people who were excited and grateful to be there. Not only that, the doctor was even more thrilled to be doing what he was doing.
That was also the day that I made up my mind to become a chiropractor, no matter what it took. It was so radically different from everything else I had seen, that it amazed and attracted me. I began getting chiropractic adjustments on a regular basis and realized I had really been missing out.
Educational Background
I completed my pre-chiropractic studies at Loras College, a small catholic college in Iowa, before continuing on to the prestigious Palmer College in Davenport, Iowa, the birthplace and cornerstone of chiropractic. While there, I was fortunate to have great academic and clinical successes. This allowed me the opportunity to not only participate in different on campus clubs, but to partake in chiropractic mission trips that focused on providing health care to under-served countries.
Having a great clinical and academic foundation at Palmer College afforded me the ability to finish my studies early. In doing so, I was able to move to Missoula and complete a clinical residency with an excellent family wellness doctor right here in the Five Valleys area.
Personal Experience and Chiropractic Goals
During my time at Palmer College, I had an extensive shoulder surgery performed on my left shoulder due to chronic dislocations. After hours of research, I chose to have a sports chiropractor do my rehabilitation. My sports chiropractor took me from not being able to lift a gallon of milk out of the fridge to doing pull ups, within 3 months. I decided right then and there I was going to pursue sports chiropractic and rehab. I later completed the necessary courses to become a board certified physio-therapist. I have continued my studies learning more about functional exercise, neuro-muscular reeducation and myofascial release, all of which are therapies that help the body move and feel better.
My personal fitness is a top priority of mine and I enjoy living an active lifestyle here in the treasure state. I stay fit with functional type exercise and pursuing my hobbies which include, hiking, biking, rafting, rock climbing, fishing, hunting and a variety of snow sports. Living and active life in the garden city under the big sky is the perfect recipe for healthy and happy life.
My practice is committed to providing a loving environment that cares for all types of difficult cases. I make it a priority to always put education and inspiration first, and spend as much time as I can conveying a message of health and hope to my practice members and my community.
